Kindergarten

Philosophy

Miners Rest Kindergarten is a purpose built, two room facility. We currently offer three different sessions of kindergarten, two different sessions of pre-kindergarten and playgroup. We also have access to a Wrap Around Care program (kindergarten children) and Out of Hours School Care program (school children), which is based at Miners Rest Primary School, located right next door to the kindergarten. Established in 2015, the kindergarten is a City of Ballarat owned facility and a proud addition to the Miners Rest community.

At Miners Rest Kindergarten we are committed to providing a quality early childhood educational program that acknowledges and responds to the individual needs and interests of each child, each family and the wider community. We ensure that each child is treated with respect and receives the individual care that they require and deserve. Children are very confident, capable, active, strong and powerful co-contributors to their own learning and we aim to provide experiences that empower them to be life-long learners. We provide them with access to a wide variety of materials to learn new skills and encourage them to make their own choices and decisions to express their individuality. We offer a play-based program where children are able to explore core subjects such as mathematics, science, literacy, numeracy and ICT’s, recognising that learning occurs in a social context. Our program provides the opportunity for children to challenge their own thinking, develop their problem solving skills, leads to higher levels of emotional wellbeing and provides a love for life-long learning.

At Miners Rest Kindergarten we acknowledge that we are part of a diverse community and are committed to the inclusion of all children in our program, ensuring that discrimination does not occur based on gender, race, religion, language, ability or culture.

We believe that children should be active participants in their own assessment of learning. They are encouraged to participate in the planning process, to share their knowledge and communicate their ideas to share with their peers, their educators and their families. Adults and children all have the right to be heard and treated with dignity and respect. Together, we are a community of learners.

Our team prides itself on the positive, open and authentic relationships that it builds with families. We aim to foster feelings of trust and respect so that families develop a sense of belonging within the setting. Families are encouraged to spend time within the setting during session time, as well as share their individual interests with the children, where possible. We aim to work closely with families to provide a program that challenges each child, supports their needs and explores their individual interests. Confidentiality of each child and their family will be maintained at all times.

The educators at Miners Rest Kindergarten are highly experienced and knowledgeable in all areas of child development. We are constantly researching and investigating innovative teaching approaches to support our programming and planning. We have a high commitment to ongoing professional learning and development.

Our goal is to make learning real and fun!
