From the principal

Welcome to Miners Rest Primary School & Kindergarten. (K-6)

I acknowledge the First People of the Wathaurong who are the traditional custodians of the land and waters on which I work and live, and pay my respects to the Elders of the past, present and emerging.

Thank you for visiting our School/Kindergarten website, designed to introduce you to our K-6 setting and assist you in becoming familiar with us.

Our staff, parents and community extend a warm welcome to you and your family and hope you will form a close, rewarding and educational association with our school.

Miners Rest Primary School is a medium sized school with 351 students, along with our Kindergarten which hosts 75, 3 & 4yr old students.  The school is located approximately 10 kilometres north-west of Ballarat.  The Primary School site itself was established 1858 and the Kindergarten has newly formed in 2015.  We are extremely proud of our new Kindergarten supporting young families and allowing for a seamless student transition into the school environment with its adjacent location.

Student numbers are steadily growing with the increasing development in our area.  The school and community have a rich and proud history, yet still today offer a diverse and 21st century curriculum and learning environment.

Daily literacy & numeracy blocks are the foundation on which we build the necessary skills for our ever-changing world along with Integrated Studies topics developing Science, Civics & Citizenship, Geography and History skills. A highlight of our school is the extensive excursion/incursion program which offers many cultural and personal growth opportunities to the students.

Our school certainly views education as a partnership of students, staff, parents & the broader school community. Our great strength is to provide an individualised education focused on the point of need for all students.

We are extremely proud of our modern facilities & technologically inspired classrooms. Students enjoy great exposure to i-Pads and laptops with each classroom containing an Apple TV. Our Year 3-6 students have a 1:1 i-Pad program which is aimed at complimenting and richly enhancing their learning.

We boast specialist classes weekly in Visual Arts, STEM and Physical Education. Diversity in our programming is guaranteed also with a Library, Swim Program, Gymnastics Program, Camps Program, Upper school sport and a range of events throughout the year that involve our school community.

Students are allocated buddies to assist in transition periods and work extensively with them on a weekly basis in a variety of forums. We operate Foundation, Year 1&2, Year 3&4 and Year 5&6 structured classes. Students also belong to a House, applied to students upon enrolment to enhance welfare and sporting interest.

Parent involvement is paramount to the success and operations of the school, with active School Council, Parent’s Association and Junior School Councils’ often the catalyst behind many of our extra-curricular activities.

I trust you’ll find the website helpful, you can also check our FREE ‘Miners Rest Primary School App’ for Smartphones or please contact the school with any additional inquiries.
